MEP – Salaries & Expenses
The wages for UK MEPs are the same as those for UK MPs, which is currently £64,766 from 1 April 2009. After the June 2009 elections a new pay system will be adopted, in which the salary will increase to €7,000 per month for all MEPs. That equates to about £75,000 per year.
On top of their salary MEPs can also claim a host of expenses from travel and lunches to office expenses and hotel allowances. There are even allowable expenses for employing staff, who could also be relatives, of €17,540 per month. These expenses can easily exceed £250,000 per year. Now ask yourself do they deliver value for money?
We have seen various articles about greedy MEPs and MPs such as:
Whilst they profess innocence the rest of us consider it fraud.
Don’t vote for a party, look to the intentions and integrity of the candidate. Call your MEPs and ask them how much they have claimed in expenses in the last five years, how much was paid to family and relatives and how they consulted your views. If you don’t like their answers then fire them on 4 June 2009.
